Terre Haute’s Larry Bird Museum to Open in 2023

TERRE HAUTE, IND.—The Larry Bird Museum in Terre Haute, Ind. has been pushed back from March 2022 to mid-2023. Even though the museum was originally planned to be a part of the new convention center grand opening in March, organizers say that decisions on memorabilia are still underway. Even though the museum opening will be a year behind schedule, it gives organizers more time to perfect the design and layout of the space.

The museum has been a long time coming for residents of Terre Haute and Larry Bird fans across the nation.

Gerard Hilferty of museum planning group Hilferty and Associates says, “we want the experience to work for hard core Larry Bird fans, as well as schoolchildren and a broad range of audiences.”

Even though there is some pushback, organizers assure that the museum will be better than expected as the museum is now budgeted for $1.5 million.
