Huntington Beach: 2 injured in officer-involved shooting near Sunset Beach area

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) — Two people were injured – including an armed suspect – in a shooting involving police in Huntington Beach.

It happened at around 12:20 p.m. on Monday in the Sunset Beach area.

According to a tweet posted by the Huntington Police Department, when officers arrived, they found an armed man near the Pacific Coast Highway and 3rd Street.

Officers asked the man to surrender but when he refused, that’s when police opened fire. The man was shot and later rushed to the hospital.

Police say another person was injured and also sent to the hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn’t released.

Police add that no officers were injured during the shooting.

It’s unclear what prompted the shooting but police say there is no threat to public safety in the area.

Officers are currently blocking the area near Warner Avenue and S. Pacific as they continue their investigation.
